Hey gorgeous! Frizzy hair can be a challenge, but don’t worry—I’ve got your back. Whether you’re 16, 45 or 79, frizz doesn’t discriminate. It can be the result of various factors like humidity, hair damage, or even just your natural hair texture. But fear not, because today I’m going to share some tried and true tips to help you combat the frizz and keep your hair looking smooth and shiny.
Understanding your hair type, first things first: Understanding your hair type is crucial. Is your hair fine, thick, curly, or straight? Each hair type reacts differently to humidity and products, so knowing what you’re working with is the first step in the right direction.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate! Frizzy hair is often a sign of dryness, so keeping your hair well-hydrated is key. Here are a few tips:
1. Use a hydrating shampoo and conditioner: Look for products specifically designed to hydrate and smooth hair. Ingredients like argan oil, shea butter, and glycerin are great for locking in moisture. You can always make a stop at your nearest salon and ask for help picking out some products.
2. Deep conditioning treatments: Once a week, treat your hair to a deep conditioning mask. This will provide intense moisture and help repair any damage.
3. Leave-in conditioners: A good leave-in conditioner can do wonders. It helps maintain moisture levels throughout the day and provides a protective barrier against humidity. If you’re going to use any one product on your hair, this is it.

Be gentle with your hair. How you handle your hair can greatly affect its frizz factor. Here are some gentle handling tips:
1. Avoid over-washing: Washing your hair too often can strip it of its natural oils, leading to dryness and frizz. Try to wash your hair no more than 2-3 times a week.
2. Use a microfiber towel: Regular towels can rough up the hair cuticle, causing frizz. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water with a microfiber towel or even a soft t-shirt.
3. Brush carefully: Use a wide-tooth comb or a brush designed for wet hair to detangle. Start from the ends and work your way up to avoid breakage and don’t brush your hair after it dries.
4. Tight pony tails and braids: Tightly secured updos can cause breakage and frizz. Minimize putting your hair up as much as possible and when you do, use tangle and frizz free hair ties such as scrunchies or spiral ties.

Protect your hair. Heat styling tools can be a frizz culprit, but we all love our straighteners and curling irons, right? Here’s how to use them without wreaking havoc on your hair:
1. Heat protectant: ALWAYS apply a heat protectant spray or serum before using any heat styling tools. This creates a barrier that minimizes damage.
2. Lower the heat: Use the lowest heat setting possible to achieve your desired style. High heat can strip moisture from your hair, leading to frizz.

Choose the right products. The right products can make all the difference. Here are some of my favorites:
1. Serums and oils: Lightweight serums and oils can help tame frizz and add shine. Apply a small amount to the ends and work your way up, avoiding the roots to prevent greasiness.
2. Anti-frizz creams: These can be applied to damp hair to help smooth the cuticle and reduce frizz throughout the day.
3. Frizz taming sticks: These will change the frizz game and are perfect for finishing touches on styling, when you’re short on time or on the go. My favorites are R+Co Dart Pomade Stick & Samnyte Hair Finishing Stick. Both are on Amazon!
4. Hairspray: A light mist of anti-humidity hairspray can help keep your style in place without making your hair stiff.

Lifestyle tips. Sometimes, the way we live our lives can impact our hair health. Here are some lifestyle tips to consider:
1. Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water keeps your hair (and skin) hydrated from the inside out.
2. Healthy diet: A diet rich in vitamins and minerals, especially omega-3 fatty acids, can improve hair health.
3. Silk pillowcases: Sleeping on a silk pillowcase reduces friction and helps keep your hair smooth.
4. Be wary of swimming: Whether it be the ocean, a lake or a pool, water alone can immensely dry out your hair. Try wetting your hair with a spray bottle and a leave-in conditioner before jumping in the water so it stays hydrated as much as possible when you’re cooling off in the sun!
You can also ask a local hairdresser if a Keratin Treatment or Brazilian Blowout would be a good fit for you.

Embrace your natural texture every once in a while! Sometimes, the best way to combat frizz is to work with your natural texture rather than against it. There are plenty of styles and products out there designed to enhance your natural beauty. Remember, frizz is natural and everyone experiences it. With these tips and a little bit of care, you can keep your hair looking its best no matter the weather or situation. Stay fabulous! Your go-to hairdresser, Aly Marie Walker.
